THANKSGIVING IN CLALLAM COUNTY: Free public dinners set today in Port Angeles, Sequim, Forks

The sixth annual Community Thanksgiving Dinner will be served in the Queen of Angels gym today in what has become the North Olympic Peninsula’s largest free public turkey-day dinner.

Turkey and all the trimmings will be served from 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the gym at 209 W. 11th St., Port Angeles. Doors will open at 11 a.m.

Last year, volunteers served between 700 and 800 people. The free feast had drawn about 475 in 2011, 300 in 2010 and 250 in 2009.

Each person who attends will be given a ticket allowing the selection of an item from a gift table. Coats, hats and gloves will be distributed to those who need them.

Santa Claus will visit from noon to 2 p.m.

Volunteers are needed to help with the meal, and donations of food, gifts and coats, hats and gloves are sought.

■ In Sequim, free meals are planned today at Trinity United Methodist Church, Sunshine Cafe and Hardy’s Market.

Reservations were requested by Wednesday for the turkey dinner at the Trinity United Methodist Church at 100 S. Blake Ave. in Sequim, which will begin at 4 p.m.

Reservations are suggested for the 11th annual Free Harvest Dinner at the Sunshine Cafe at 135 W Washington St. in Sequim. Phone 360-683-4282.

The meal will be from noon to 5 p.m.

Donations for Project Violet will be accepted in memory of Violet O’Dell, who died from a rare brain cancer in October 2012 when she was 11 years old.

Hardy’s Market, 10200 Old Olympic Highway, will serve a free dinner from 11 a.m. until supplies are gone to thank customers for their support.

■ In Forks, a free public Thanksgiving meal is planned from 1:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the Forks Community Center, 91 Maple St.

The meal is sponsored by the churches of Forks.
