Sign of the times: Sequim YMCA unveils new logo, outlook

SEQUIM — A new sign denoted a new outlook for a familiar community organization.

YMCA of the USA recently unveiled what officials call a “brand strategy” to increase understanding of the impact that YMCAs make in communities across the country — by way of a new logo.

The YMCA recently unveiled a “more forward-looking logo that reflects the vibrancy and diversity of the organization, and a framework that focuses resources on three core areas: youth development, healthy living and social responsibility,” club officials said.

The logo is part of new signage including an electronic readerboard that was installed last week at the YMCA of Sequim.

“The new logo’s bold, active and welcoming shape symbolizes the Y’s commitment to personal and social progress,” YMCA officials said in a statement this week.

Area cancer survivors have access to a free strength-and-wellness program designed specifically for them at the YMCA of Sequim, thanks to a partnership between the Olympic Peninsula YMCA and Olympic Medical Center.

The 12-week program — “Exercise and Thrive” — is available to all adult cancer survivors, regardless of when their cancer occurred. The curriculum was developed in consultation with major cancer research institutions.

“The YMCA of Sequim is truly excited about the brand strategy and the opportunity to engage more people in the areas of healthy living, social responsibility and youth development,” said Kurt Turner, branch manager of YMCA of Sequim.

“There are many exciting changes taking place at the YMCA of Sequim. We are building momentum, and this strategy is getting everyone from our volunteers to our members and donors very excited.”

The lighthouse was built in 1878 when Congress approved $8,000 for the light and foghorns. Although the facility is still an active U.S. Coast Guard station, the equipment is monitored and operated remotely and no keepers are present. Regular tours on Saturdays and Sundays will resume in May. (Steve Mullensky/for Peninsula Daily News)
