UPDATE: Woman detained after report of shots fired

Streets blocked off temporarily in Cherry Hill neighborhood in Port Angeles

PORT ANGELES — A court hearing is planned for today for a 49-year-old woman who was booked into the Clallam County jail after police investigated a report of gunshots at a home in the Cherry Hill neighborhood of Port Angeles on Tuesday afternoon.

Jacqueline O’Steen was booked for investigation of discharge of a weapon and reckless endangerment. Bond was set at $100,000. She has not been charged. Formal charges will be decided by the Clallam County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office.

No one was reported injured and police had no information that she had shot at a person, said Detective Sgt. Kori Malone with the Port Angeles Police Department.

Police said that it appears she was shooting at the ceiling.

Port Angeles Police Chief Brian Smith said dispatchers received a call reporting the shots at 4:15 p.m., and that officers blocked off streets between Fourth and Fifth streets and Laurel and Cherry streets.

They detained a woman later identified as O’Steen and streets were re-opened.

The department responded with its entire detective and patrol squads plus personnel from the Clallam County Sheriff’s Office, Elwha Police and OPNET, Smith said.
