GARDINER — Two Sequim motorcyclists were injured in a multi-motorcycle wreck on U.S. Highway 101 on Sunday evening.
Kenneth R. Almberg, 65, of Sequim was flown to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle after laying down his 1996 Harley-Davidson and colliding with another motorcycle, said State Patrol Trooper Casey Corey.
Steven R. Rose, 49, also of Sequim, received relatively minor injuries and was transported to Jefferson Healthcare hospital as a precaution, Corey said.
Almberg was reported in serious condition Monday afternoon in the Harborview intensive care unit, according to a hospital spokeswoman.
According to the State Patrol report, Almberg and Rose were riding among a group of four motorcycles about 6 p.m. Sunday.
Rose and two other motorcyclists slowed for traffic ahead.
Almberg was unable to slow quickly enough and laid down his motorcycle, which slid into Rose, who was riding a 2008 Harley-Davidson.
Both riders were thrown from their motorcycles. They were wearing helmets, the trooper reported.
Corey identified the cause of the wreck as “speed too fast for conditions” on the part of Almberg.
