SEQUIM — A Sequim High School freshman student, Breyanna Taylor, recently walked away with the $100 cash prize in the 2015 Sequim Education Foundation Film Festival Poster Contest.
Judges picked the winner out of 49 entries.
Each year, students in grades 6 through 12 compete to design a poster to promote the annual film festival.
This year’s festival is Friday, April 17, at 7 p.m. in the Sequim High School auditorium, 601 N. Sequim Ave.
Taylor said this is her first time to enter her artwork in a contest, but her love of drawing manifested early in her life when she would watch her older sister.
“My inspiration for this drawing was from my favorite style of art called Zentangle,” she said. “I made the head out of little abstract designs and then used the film strips for the mane and used a wolf for the Sequim Wolves.”
This is the 10th anniversary of the festival, open to all Sequim School District students.
Students must turn their films in to the district office, 503 N. Sequim Ave., no later than 4 p.m. Monday, April 6.
Film festival winners will be awarded up to $6,750 in scholarship funds, plus cash prizes.
This year, Sequim Sunrise Rotary is sponsoring a $500 cash award to the film student or students who create a film documenting community service.
The student film can be about their own volunteer work or other community individuals, organizations or clubs (either school or community organizations).
Preference will be given for local service projects. A cash prize also will be given for the best public service announcement.
A $5 fee for the event is requested to help with the cost of the scholarships.
