BREMERTON — A Port Townsend man was in satisfactory condition at a Bremerton hospital Saturday after he was hurt in a Friday morning collision in which a South Kitsap woman was killed.
Lonny Murl Kvinsland, 76, on Saturday was listed in satisfactory condition at Harrison Medical Center in Bremerton, said Scott Thompson, spokesman for Harrison parent company CHI Franciscan Health.
A passenger in Kvinsland’s vehicle, Myeong Hwa Katie Kendall, 48, was killed in the wreck, said Deputy Steve Martin of the Kitsap County Sheriff’s Office.
The 9:57 a.m. wreck was in the 4200 block of Southeast Mile Hill Drive, opposite the South Park Village Shopping Mall, east of the Port Orchard city limits, Martin said.
Deputies said Kvinsland’s northbound Oldsmobile Ciera was struck after it left a parking lot and continued across Southeast Mile Hill Drive, which consists of two eastbound lanes, a center turn lane and one westbound lane.
The Oldsmobile was struck as it entered the westbound lane by a 2012 Chevrolet Silverado pickup driven by a 37-year-old woman from South Kitsap, who was not identified.
Due to the force of the collision, both vehicles rotated clockwise and came to a stop in a planter strip on the north side of the roadway, deputies said.
Kvinsland — the only person involved in the wreck who was not wearing a seat belt, Martin said — was transported by South Kitsap Fire and Rescue to Harrison Medical Center for evaluation and treatment.
Passengers in the Silverado were a 40-year-old woman and 24-year-old woman, both from South Kitsap, and a 20-year-old woman from Texas. All were examined at the scene by medics and released, deputies said.
None was identified.
It’s not suspected that any form of driver impairment was a factor in the cause of the crash, Martin said.
The county’s forensic pathologist will conduct an autopsy of Kendall, Martin said, and will make a determination as to cause and manner of death.
