Port Angeles man gets suspended sentence in theft attempt

PORT ANGELES — A man found hiding beneath a motor home after he rummaged through a nearby garage will serve a year’s worth of suspended sentence and no additional jail time after he pleaded guilty in the case.

Sean Earl Gormley, 26, of Port Angeles pleaded guilty Dec. 4 to one count each of first-degree criminal trespass and third-degree attempted theft in Clallam County Superior Court.

Gormley, arrested by Port Angeles police 10 times since 2007, was sentenced to a year on suspended sentence, according to Superior Court records, and given credit for 45 days spent in the Clallam County jail.

He was not listed on the jail roster Tuesday.

The charges stem from Gormley walking into an unlocked garage in the 100 block of West Fourth Street on Oct. 27.

Police accounts

According to police accounts, the homeowner called 9-1-1 at about 11:30 p.m. after he heard a noise coming from his garage, then walked in to find a man rummaging through his belongings.

The man, later identified as Gormley, fled down an alley to the east, triggering a search involving Cpl. Kevin Miller and police dog Jag.

Miller and Jag tracked Gormley to the 200 block of South Laurel Street and found him hiding under a motor home.

Jag was allowed to grab and hold Gormley after the man refused to come out several times.

Gormley was treated at Olympic Medical Center for wounds caused by Jag to the left arm, then was taken to jail.
