Port Angeles: Liberty Bell replica to toll for Iraq war casualty Reiss

PORT ANGELES — Local veterans ring the replica Liberty Bell at Veterans Park on Lincoln Street the last Friday of every month to honor Clallam and Jefferson county war veterans who died during the month.

This Friday’s ceremony at 1 p.m. will include ringing the bell for Marine Corps Sgt. Brendon Reiss, 23, killed when his unit was ambushed in Iraq.

His father is Brian Reiss of Port Angeles.

The public is invited to attend Friday’s ceremony. A bagpiper is scheduled to play “Amazing Grace,” and taps will be sounded.

A temporary memorial filled with cards, flags, flowers and wreaths has been erected in Sgt. Reiss’ honor at Veterans Park.
