Port Angeles civic leader Kristin Tucker dies of stroke

PORT ANGELES — Community leader Kristin J. Tucker, 63, died of a stroke at 4 a.m. Tuesday morning at her home in Port Angeles.

The Tucker family gathered Tuesday afternoon at the family home.

“She left a hole in us,” said her husband, John Tucker.

“She was a very community-oriented person,” John said.

“She participated in so many different things, not just with time, but also with money,” he said.

Tucker was a past president of the Port Angeles Rotary Club — as well as having been its second woman member.

She served as treasurer of the Port Angeles Food Bank, on the board of the Port Angeles chapter of the Salvation Army and was past president and treasurer of the Port Angeles Downtown Association.

“Her contributions always came with a lot of heart,” said Barbara Frederick, PADA executive director.

“She also brought a real level head and a great spirit.”

Family and business

Tucker was born and raised in Port Townsend.

She married John 43 years ago, two years after she and John were crowned Port Townsend High School’s prom king and queen.

“We were the high school sweethearts that got married,” John said.

“We beat the odds and stayed together,” he said.

The couple moved to Port Angeles in 1970.

Since moving to Port Angeles, she had opened her own business, Kristin J. Tucker Accounting, and eventually purchased an office building at 324 W. First St., which she and her family renovated.

The Tuckers have three children, John Jr., 40, Molly, 36, and Millissa, 34.

All three graduated from Port Angeles High School.
