The 17th annual Jefferson County Community Garage Sale and Flea Market on Saturday had something for everyone, including Steve McCreary from Port Townsend.

He found and purchased a book, “Miss Pickerell Goes to Mars” by Ellen MacGregor, that he read when in the second grade in 1956.

The book was published in 1951 and inspired McCrearey’s interest in aviation.

Although the facility is still an active U.S. Coast Guard station, the equipment is monitored and operated remotely and no keepers are present. Regular tours on Saturdays and Sundays will resume in May. (Steve Mullensky/for Peninsula Daily News)
