Peninsula: “Ragtime” kite fly-in, other Easter events today

A kite fly-in called “Ragtime”‘ will be held at Valley Creek Estuary Park in Port Angeles from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. today.

The fly-in, sponsored by Pacific Rim Hobby, will include displays of kites of all sizes and shapes.

Demonstrations of trick kites along with a raffle to “Win a Really Big Kite” will be held.

People are encouraged to bring their own kites or just watch.

The estuary is located on Front Street at the western end of the downtown area near Cherry Street.

Other events today

* Local churches are hosting Easter Sunrise services this morning.

Many Easter egg hunts were held Saturday. These events are scheduled for today:

* Port Townsend: Elks Lodge No. 317 will host the area’s oldest continuing Easter egg hunt, starting at 7 a.m. at Chetzemoka Park, Jackson and Blaine streets in Port Townsend.

The egg hunt has been a community event for more than 70 years.

Children 12 years of age and younger are invited to participate in the free event.

The children will hunt for 1,440 real eggs, 16 “gold” eggs and 16 “silver” eggs.

Easter baskets and other prizes will be awarded.

Boy Scout Troop No. 479 will hide eggs and assist during the hunt.

Also today in Port Townsend, the 20th annual American Legion Post No. 26 Ladies Auxiliary Easter Egg Hunt will be held at 1 p.m.

The event at American Legion Park located on Discovery Road at state Highway 20 is open for children 12 years of age and younger.

About 1,080 real eggs — including prize eggs — will be awarded for various age categories.

Music will be provided by Louie’s World, Louis and Selina Espinoza. The Easter Bunny will be on hand to greet children.

Calvary Chapel, 13474 Airport Road, Port Townsend, will not host an egg hunt this year, but will have special programs for children and youths, including songs, stories and prizes, during the 8:30 a.m. and 10:45 a.m. Easter services.

* Brinnon: The Community Easter Egg Hunt will begin at 1 p.m. at Dosewallips State Park, just south of town.

Children will be divided into separate groups to hunt for hundreds of eggs.

There will be drawings for Easter baskets, candy and stuffed bunnies.

* Forks: An Easter buffet breakfast will be served from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Forks Elks Lodge, 941 Merchant Road.

Pancakes, French toast, biscuits and gravy, scrambled eggs, ham, sausages, hashbrowns, fruit, juice, coffee and milk will be served.

Proceeds will benefit Sunshine & Rainbow Child Development Center.

Breakfast costs $6 for adults and children over the age of 12, and $4 for children 5 to 11 years old and senior citizens.

Children 3 and younger eat free.
