Peninsula ballot response below 50 percent as Election Day arrives

Ballot returns reached 38 percent in Clallam County and 49 percent in Jefferson County on Monday as auditors gave their last report before Election Day.

Ballots must be postmarked for the all-mail general election by today or hand-delivered by 8 p.m. today to be counted.

As of Monday, the Jefferson County Auditor’s Office had received 11,220 ballots out of the 22,856 issued to registered voters for a voter turnout of 49.09 percent.

The Auditor’s Office reported that 116 ballots have been deemed undeliverable.

In Clallam County, 18,242 ballots had been returned out of 46,908 issued for a voter turnout of 38.89 percent.

Statewide returns as of 10 a.m. Monday counted 966,041 out of 3.92 million issued, for a turnout of 24.6 percent.

North Olympic Peninsula county auditors have said they expect a flood of ballots this week, with Jefferson County’s Donna Eldridge hoping for a final turnout of 77 percent and Patty Rosand, Clallam County auditor, looking for a 55 percent turnout.

Where to take ballots

In Clallam County, ballots can be hand-delivered to:

■ Clallam County Courthouse, 223 E. Fourth St., Port Angeles. Drop boxes are outside the courthouse and in the Auditor’s Office.

■ Sequim Village Shopping Center, 609 W. Washington St., near the city’s utility payment drop box in the J.C. Penney parking lot.

■ Forks District Court, 502 E. Division St.

In Jefferson County, ballots can be taken to:

■ Jefferson County Courthouse, 1820 Jefferson St., Port Townsend. Drop boxes are available behind the courthouse and inside the Auditor’s Office.

■ Jefferson County Library, 620 Cedar Ave., Port Hadlock.

Anyone who has not received a ballot should phone or stop by the county Auditor’s Office.

Voters can get replacement ballots at www.myvote.wa.gov.
