Pilings are all that remain of the western portion of the landing for the MV Coho ferry that runs between Port Angeles and Victoria.
In the accompanying photo, David Gonzales of Seattle-based Manson Construction Co. is shown fishing for stray debris after the decades-old portion of the dock over water was removed this week as part of a $3.5 million project by Black Ball Ferry Lines.
The project calls for a new pier, upgraded traffic lanes and passenger terminal area as well as a rebuilt U.S. Customs inspection area for the Port of Entry.
The roof covering the lanes of the old Customs inspection station came down Monday.
Customs now is using a temporary area on the landing’s east side for vehicles off the Coho.
