PORT ANGELES — Researchers with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration plan to conduct a survey of public reaction to the Elwha River restoration project.
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration — or NOAA — said a public opinion survey will be distributed to a sampling of Washington and Oregon residents in a few months.
The survey will ask how effective participants think the Elwha restoration project has been so far and collect reaction on the impact of the project on their everyday lives.
That will help NOAA improve public outreach programs for future environmental restoration projects, the agency said.
NOAA will work with a national research firm to conduct a pilot survey, which researchers plan to distribute to 1,300 randomly selected participants through the Internet and standard mail.
The final version of the survey will be conducted via mail.
The $325 million dam-removal project, one of the largest in U.S. history, seeks to restore nearly 70 miles of salmon-spawning habitat that has been blocked off since the dams where built in the early 1900s.
