NEWS BRIEFS: Flight practice set this week in Coupeville … and other items

COUPEVILLE — Field carrier landing practice operations for aircraft stationed at Naval Air Station Whidbey Island are scheduled to occur at the outlying field in Coupeville late morning to midafternoon Monday.

Training also has been scheduled early afternoon to midafternoon Wednesday.

Training will continue afternoon to late afternoon and night to late night Thursday.

Aircraft carrier-based flight training also will occur at Ault Field night to late night Tuesday.

Operations will continue early afternoon to late afternoon Friday.

The schedule is subject to change to meet mission requirements.

Support group

SEQUIM — A woman identified only as Azella will speak about personal experiences with a stroke at a brain injury support group meeting Monday.

The support group will meet from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at the Sequim Library, 630 N. Sequim Ave.

The event is free and open to the public.

In association with the Washington State Brain Injury Issue Association, this support group provides knowledge and understanding of brain injuries of any type ranging from concussions to strokes and aneurysms, according to a news release.

Azella will speak about how she has dealt with the effects of a stroke for the past 11 years.

Food and coffee will be served.

PORT ANGELES — Here is this week’s schedule for the 1:05 p.m. to 2 p.m. local talk show segment on KONP radio, at 1450 AM, 101.7 FM and www.konp.com on the internet outside the Port Angeles area.

Wednesday: Pre-empted by Seattle Mariners game.

College graduate

HAYS, Kan. — Former Port Angeles student Koon Kau Woon recently graduated from Fort Hays State University during the fall 2016 semester.

He received his Masters of Liberal Studies (literary arts).

Landscaping workshop

SEQUIM — The Clallam Conservation District will hold a free field workshop at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 22.

The workshop will focus on landscaping with native plants during a 2-mile hike at the Dungeness Recreation Area, located at 554 W. Voice of America Road.

District Executive Director Joe Holtrop will speak about how to incorporate more than 25 native trees and shrubs, their cultural requirements, aesthetic attributes and environmental and wildlife habitat benefits.

Holtrop holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in landscape architecture and has been conducting these workshops since 1990.

Due to space limitations, preregistration is required.
