NEWS BRIEF: Port Angeles Library offers three book clubs to public starting Jan. 13

PORT ANGELES — For those who want to explore the world or the far reaches of space, travel back in time, discuss contemporary issues or be a book or film critic can do so by joining a North Olympic Library System (NOLS) book group.

The Port Angeles Library, located at 2210 S. Peabody St., hosts three monthly book discussion groups for adults.

The new year will feature titles in contemporary and historical fiction, biographies, classics, science, history and more.

The 2nd Tuesday Book Discussion group meets on the second Tuesday of each month at 11 a.m.

This group reads a mix of contemporary and historical fiction, classics and nonfiction.

Upcoming selections include Good Lord Bird by James McBride on Jan. 13; The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern on Feb. 10; and The Man Who Loved China by Simon Winchester on March 10.

Page2Screen is the library’s newest book group, started in 2014.

This book-to-film discussion group explores themes and issues in classic and contemporary books and the movies inspired by them.

It meets on the last Tuesday of each month at 6:30 p.m.

Upcoming selections for this group include A Thousand Acres by Jane Smiley on Jan. 27; The Wolf of Wall Street by John Belfort on Feb. 24; and On the Road by Jack Kerouac on March 31.

The Port Angeles Literary Society (PALS) continues to meet on the last Wednesday of every month at 6:30 p.m.

This group reads a wide variety of contemporary and award-winning fiction, nonfiction, poetry, classics and graphic novels.

Selections include The Face by Dean Koontz on Jan. 28; The Girls of Atomic City by Denise Kiernan on Feb. 25; and Surely You’re Joking by Richard Feynman on March 25.

Each group is hosted by a volunteer facilitator and supported by the Port Angeles Friends of the Library.

To participate, simply read the book and attend the discussion. No reservations are needed, and drop-ins are always welcome.

A limited number of copies of each book may be available at the library the month before each group meets to discuss a title.

For those who prefer an alternative format, such as large print, book on CD or downloadable print or audio, please ask library staff about availability.
