SEQUIM –– Sequim High School’s operetta “Footloose” was nominated for five honors as Seattle’s 5th Avenue Theatre announced its slate of candidates for the 2013 5th Avenue Awards: Honoring High School Musical Theater.
“This is wonderful. Our kids put a whole lot of work into this production and did a great job. It’s great they’ve been recognized for it,” said Jim Stoffer, publicity manager for the Sequim High Operetta Club.
“Footloose” was one of 105 productions seen by 5th Avenue staff
this year.
Sequim nominees for performance awards were: Ian Houghton, a freshman, for Outstanding Performance by an Actor or Actress in a non-singing role for his portrayal of Principal Clark; and Hailey Brock, Kathryn Lorentzen and Anne Lorentzen for Outstanding Ensemble group for their performance as the girls trio.
The production was nominated for awards for Outstanding Orchestra, Outstanding Costume Design and Outstanding Lobby Display.
Stoffer credited the town for donating time, materials and inspiration for the production, especially in helping with the vintage costumes worn by the cast, but he said none of it works without the students.
“We get a lot of help, a lot of support from the community,” he said. “But then it comes down to it, the kids to put it together and make it what it was: a great show.”
Awards will be given out during a ceremony at the 5th Avenue Theatre on June 11.
