EYE ON JEFFERSON: Jefferson County health officer to provide weekly updates on COVID-19

City to host hearing on parks plan

The three Jefferson County commissioners will hear a weekly update on COVID-19 when they meet at 9 a.m. Monday.

The meeting will be in commissioners’ chambers at the Jefferson County Courthouse, 1820 Jefferson St., Port Townsend.

Jefferson County Health Officer Dr. Tom Locke will provide weekly updates on the new coronavirus starting Monday. He will be joined by Willie Bence, the director of the county’s Department of Emergency Management.

Commissioners also will consider a resolution for community development block grants, discuss and potentially act on awarding a bid for the official county newspaper and continue deliberations on a new social media policy.

Items on the consent agenda include a resolution for an emergency declaration for a public health emergency with regard to COVID-19.

On Tuesday, county commissioners and senior managers will have a team retreat to discuss their 2020-23 work program.

The meeting will start at 9 a.m. at Camp Beausite Northwest, 510 Beausite Lake Road in Chimacum.

Port Townsend city

The Port Townsend City Council will conduct a public hearing on an ordinance to adopt its parks, recreation and open spaces plan when it meets at 6:30 p.m. Monday.

The meeting will be in council chambers at historic City Hall, 540 Water St.

The council also will have a public hearing on several amendments related to the housing code.

In new business, the council will consider a resolution to authorize the city manager to negotiate and execute a possession and use agreement and a final easement for the regional stormwater facility within the project’s available budget.

Council members also will consider a resolution to authorize the city manager to execute a settlement agreement with the Estate of William Short.

In other meetings, the council’s Transportation Committee will meet at 3 p.m. Wednesday, and the council’s Housing Committee will meet at 3 p.m. Thursday.

Port Townsend schools

The Port Townsend School Board will conduct an executive session to discuss the performance of a public employee when it has a special meeting at 4:30 p.m. Monday.

The meeting will be in the Gael Stuart Building, Room S-11, 1610 Blaine St.

Public Utility District

Jefferson County Public Utility District commissioners plan to meet at 5 p.m. Tuesday.

The meeting will be at the Jefferson Transit Authority board room, 63 Four Corners Road.

PUD General Manager Kevin Streett announced precautionary measures to close the agency’s offices and facilities to the public beginning Monday.

Communications manager Will O’Donnell said changes to an agenda are expected later Monday.

“We are exploring options for holding remote meetings in the near future and will keep you updated to any developments or changes,” O’Donnell said.

County Public Health

The Jefferson County Board of Health is scheduled to meet at 2:30 p.m. Thursday.

The meeting will be at the public health building, 615 Sheridan St. in Port Townsend.

An agenda was not available Friday night.

East Jefferson Fire-Rescue

East Jefferson Fire-Rescue commissioners will hear an update to new commissioner districts when they meet at 7 p.m. Wednesday.

The meeting will be at Station 1-1, 9193 Rhody Drive in Chimacum.

Commissioners also will have an executive session to evaluate the qualifications of an applicant for public employment or to review the performance of public safety personnel.

Development authority board

The Fort Worden Public Development Authority executive committee will conduct an executive session when it meets at 9 a.m. Tuesday.

The meeting will be at the Seminar building (Building 297) at Fort Worden, 200 Battery Way.

The executive session will be to review personnel matters and lease terms and conditions.

Staff also will provide updates on construction projects, Makers Square grants and leasing as well as a new coronavirus response plan.

Fire District 3

Clallam County Fire District 3 commissioners will discuss a fire code technician position when they meet at 1 p.m. Tuesday.

The meeting will be at district headquarters, 323 N. Fifth Ave. in Sequim.

Commissioners also will discuss a Clallam County Superior Court summons and claim.

The district covers the east side of Clallam County with a small portion in Jefferson County.
