EYE ON JEFFERSON: County commissioners to hear critical areas ordinance

Port Townsend schools to discuss superintendent job

The three Jefferson County commissioners will hear Planning Commission recommendations on a critical areas ordinance when they meet at 9 a.m. Monday.

The meeting will be in commissioners’ chambers at the Jefferson County Courthouse, 1820 Jefferson St., Port Townsend.

Items on the consent agenda include a temporary closure of the Upper Hoh Road at milepost 8 until repairs can be made.

Port Townsend city

The Port Townsend City Council will read a proclamation declaring February reading month when it meets at 6:30 p.m. Monday.

The meeting will be in council chambers at historic City Hall, 540 Water St.

The council also plans to approve the 2019 Port Townsend Arts Commission’s public art plan and task its Rules Committee with updating its rules of procedure and an annual review of citizen boards, committees and commissions.

Port Townsend schools

The Port Townsend School Board will discuss the next steps to address filling its superintendent position when it meets at 5:30 p.m. Thursday.

The meeting will be in Room S-11 in the Gael Stuart Building, 1610 Blaine St.

Superintendent John Polm announced Friday he will leave the district to take the superintendent’s position with the Puyallup School District effective July 1.

Quilcene schools

The Quilcene School Board will discuss its levy proposal when it meets for a work study session at 6 p.m. Wednesday.

The board will meet in Room 9 at 294715 U.S. Highway 101.

Public Utility District

Jefferson County Public Utility District commissioners will discuss rescinding a proposed rate increase for schools when they meet at 5 p.m. Tuesday.

The meeting will be at 63 Four Corners Road.

The increase for “interruptible primary service” for schools was set to take place March 1, but the board reviewed it and found minimal budgetary impact, according to the PUD resolution.

All other rates and charges will remain unchanged.

Commissioners also will discuss an aid to construction rates for electrical and broadband service, and the PUD’s vegetation management policy.

Fire District 3

Clallam County Fire District 3 commissioners will review an Assistance to Firefighters grant when they meet at 1 p.m. Tuesday.

The meeting will be at station headquarters, 323 N. Fifth Ave. in Sequim.

The district covers the east side of Clallam County with a small portion in Jefferson County.

Olympic Area Agency on Aging

The Olympic Area Agency on Aging, or O3A, Council of Governments will meet Thursday via conference call to review an amendment to the 2019-2020 state/federal contract.

The meeting will begin at 10 a.m.
