EYE ON CLALLAM: Consultant eyed for roadside weed plan

The three Clallam County commissioners will discuss a proposal to hire a consultant to develop a framework for an annual roadside weed management plan Monday.

The work session will begin at 9 a.m. in the commissioners’ boardroom (160) at the Clallam County Courthouse, 223 E. Fourth St., Port Angeles.

Nearly 100 citizens packed a May 19 public hearing on a proposal to allow herbicides as one method to control noxious weeds and other non-native, invasive plants on the county’s 500-mile road system.

The hearing on the “Integrated Roadside Weed Management” ordinance was continued to allow the board to discuss the voluminous public testimony in a work session.

Other discussion items for Monday’s work session include a proposed ordinance creating a new chapter in county code for recreational marijuana.

No action is expected on the pot ordinance Monday. Commissioners will hold a public hearing before approving an ordinance to regulate the growing, processing and sale of legalized recreational marijuana.

Commissioners will hold their regular business meeting at 10 a.m. Tuesday.

Agenda items include:

■ An agreement with the Quillayute Valley Park and Recreation District releasing the district of about $205,700 in remaining debt to the Opportunity Fund.
