Caribbean flavors at castle

PORT TOWNSEND — The Mojito Quintet, a band specializing in Caribbean dance music, arrives at Manresa Castle tonight with their hands full of rhythm.

Doors will open at 7 p.m., and the music will follow at 7:30 at the castle, 651 Cleveland St.

Admission is $10 at the door.

Mojito is Vickie Townsend on the button accordion; Michael Townsend on the Cuban tres guitar; Bill Kiely on percussion; Dirk Anderson on bass; and Kurt Festinger on various saxophones.

Port Townsend Wearable Art on May 9

PORT TOWNSEND — Tickets are on sale now for the Port Townsend Wearable Art Show, the gala benefit event to take place in a new venue Saturday, May 9.

After several years of selling out the Port Townsend Elks Lodge, the show will move to McCurdy Pavilion at Fort Worden State Park, 200 Battery Way, for two performances at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.

In this much bigger hall, live video projection will provide good views of the runway.

Twenty-five designers have been selected to create art apparel for the event, while the juror is internationally known artist Jean Cacicedo.

The designers will compete in four categories: Best in Show, People’s Choice, Best Student Work, and Art You Can Really Wear.

Tickets for reserved seats start at $30, with proceeds to benefit the Jefferson County Fund for Women and Girls.

Poetry man reads Saturday night

PORT TOWNSEND — The Writers’ Workshoppe and Imprint Books invites lovers of poetry to a free reading by the nationally known writer Gary Copeland Lilley this Saturday night.

Doors will open at 6 p.m.; Lilley will read at 7 p.m.

He’s published three full-length collections, the most recent being High Water Everywhere from Willow Books.

Rabbit stomp next Friday

SEQUIM — Wild Rabbit, the folk-stomp-Americana band formerly known as Br’er Rabbit, is coming to town to play at Wind Rose Cellars, 143 W. Washington St., next Friday, May 1.

While beverage purchase is encouraged, there’s no cover charge to catch the quartet from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m.

Dance class finale

SEQUIM — The last ballroom dance classes of the season will start Tuesday with nightclub two-step at the Sequim Prairie Grange Hall, 290 Macleay Road.

Michael and Darlene Clemens will teach this style from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. each Tuesday through May 26.

Then from 8 p.m. to 9 p.m., the Clemens pair will lead an advanced West Coast swing class, also at the Sequim Prairie Grange.

Each class costs $5 per person.
