Collision with trailer fully blocks Highway 101

FORKS — One person was transported to Forks Community Hospital after the trailer of a logging truck became disconnected and another driver collided with the trailer, the State Patrol reported.

The logging truck, trailer and a Ford F-35 pickup fully blocked U.S. Highway 101 on Wednesday morning near milepost 211 at Cooper Ranch Road, east of Forks, the State Patrol said.

Vallenar Huckins, 55, of Port Hadlock was driving the logging truck northbound on Cooper Ranch Road at Highway 101 about 10:46 a.m. Wednesday when he attempted a right turn onto the highway and the trailer disconnected, the State Patrol said.

Jonah Gray, 40, of Port Angeles was driving the Ford pickup with passenger Joseph Crowe, 48, of Port Angeles and collided with the trailer, the State Patrol said.

Huckins was not injured but transported to Forks Community Hospital. He could face charges of second-degree negligent driving for an unsecured trailer, the State Patrol reported.

Neither Gray nor Crowe were injured.

All three people were wearing seat belts, the State Patrol said.

Neither drugs nor alcohol were suspected, the agency reported.

The logging truck had reportable damage and the trailer had non-reportable damage. Both were removed from the scene by private tow, the State Patrol said.

The Ford pickup was totally destroyed and towed from the scene, the agency reported.
