BUSINESS — Business briefs, and North Olympic Peninsula business meetings this week

THIS WEEK’S BUSINESS meetings in Jefferson and Clallam counties (all are open to the public):

Jefferson County Chamber of Commerce — Weekly ­luncheon meetings are held Mondays at noon at the Port Townsend Elks Lodge, 555 Otto St.

This Monday’s program will feature students from Chimacum schools who will discuss their participation in the National Engineers Week Future City Competition.

They are joining more than 35,000 sixth-, seventh- and eighth-graders from throughout the United States who are re-imagining transportation systems.

The meeting sponsor will be the Korean Women’s Association.

Lunch at $8 will be served by Subway.

Sequim-Dungeness Valley Chamber of Commerce — ­Luncheon meetings are held at 11:45 p.m. on the second and fourth Tuesdays of the month at noon at SunLand Golf & Country Club, 109 Hilltop Drive, Sequim.

This Tuesday’s speaker will be Olympic Medical Center CEO Eric Lewis.

The meeting sponsor will be the Clallam County Public Utility District.

Reservations for lunch, which costs $15, must be made by Monday morning, and seats are available for those who are not having lunch. Coffee or tea is $3.

Forks Chamber of Commerce — Luncheon meetings are Wednesdays at noon at JT’s Sweet Stuffs, 80 N. Forks Ave.

This Wednesday’s speaker will be Christi Baron, editor of the weekly Forks Forum newspaper.

Lunch costs $8; a bowl of soup, $4.75; and a cup of soup, $4. The entree is lasagna.

Port Angeles Business Association — Breakfast meetings are Tuesdays at 7:30 a.m. at Joshua’s Restaurant, 113 ­DelGuzzi Drive, Port Angeles.

This Tuesday’s meeting will be devoted to a discussion on PABA’s participation in the proposed PA United, an amalgamation of PABA, Port Angeles Regional Chamber of Commerce and the Port Angeles Downtown Association into a single business advocate.

According to a statement from PABA: “There will not be a vote at this time to merge or disband, but rather a vote to gauge membership’s desire to stay engaged.”

There is a $3 minimum charge by Joshua’s for those who do not order breakfast.

VIMO appoints new executive director in PA

PORT ANGELES — Gary Smith has been chosen to take the place of Dr. Larry Little as the new executive director of VIMO — Volunteers in Medicine of the Olympics.

Little resigned in March.

Smith has been resident of the North Olympic Peninsula since 1996.

He worked at Olympic Medical Center as the chief information officer and later served on OMC’s board of commissioners.

Smith also served on a number of economic development committees for Clallam County and is a member of the Nor’wester Rotary Club.

“I am looking forward to working at VIMO as a way of giving back to the community,” Smith said. “I hope to build on what VIMO has accomplished and extend health care services to the many underserved.”

The VIMO clinic is located at 909 E. Georgiana St., Port Angeles; 360-457-4431, with an adjunct dental services office.

VIMO provides medical, basic dental, mental health care and referrals for specialty care to adults who live and work on the North Olympic Peninsula and do not have access to health care.

Patients are asked to donate a minimum of $5 to $25 as a administrative fee for each visit.

VIMO is a registered 501(c)(3) organization that depends on volunteers and financial support from community members.

Neurologist arrives

SEQUIM — Dr. Kelvin Ma, a board-certified neurologist, will join fellow neurologist and medical director Stafford Conway at Olympic Medical Physicians Specialty Clinic in Sequim.

Ma, an experienced physician of more than 26 years, is also a member of the Swedish Neuroscience Institute.

Ma had been filling in at the specialty clinic on a temporary basis.

He is board-certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, and he earned his medical degree from McGill University and completed his neurology residency at the University of Washington.

New vendor

PORT ANGELES — A new vendor, Pacific Pantry, has been added to the Port Angeles Farmers Market Saturday lineup.

Based in Sequim, owner John Pabst will offer deli sandwiches, artisan bratwurst, salads and cookies, all made with ingredients sourced from local farms.
