Attorneys donate

PORT ANGELES — Attorneys Deborah Nelson and Jeff Boyd recently donated a check for $1,000 to the Olympic Peninsula Humane Society after a social media campaign they conducted on Facebook earlier this month.

The campaign encouraged followers to help the attorneys raise money for the Humane Society by publicly sharing a post about the need for funds to complete the new shelter at 1743 Old Olympic Highway.

For every share of the post, the attorneys’ law firm Nelson Boyd would donate $5 toward the facility.

The post garnered enough shares in three hours for the lawyers to reach their goal of $1,000.

As a former board member of Humane Society and adoptive parent to one of its dogs, Nelson said, she wanted to support the shelter this holiday season.

“For years, the staff, volunteers and supporters of the OPHS have served the needs of homeless animals in Clallam County with compassion and grace, despite limited resources and outdated facilities,” she said.

“I’m delighted that the community has come together to make the dream of a new shelter a reality. We are happy to play a part in this exciting project.”

The $1.4 million Humane Society shelter includes construction of a dog kennel building and remodeling of existing structures on the property for use in cat adoption, veterinary services and administration.

The Humane Society has raised about $1 million so far for the project.
