Coast Guard officer talks to anglers
PORT TOWNSEND — The East Jefferson Chapter of Puget Sound Anglers hosts a meeting at the Port Townsend Port Commissioner’s office, 333 Benedict St., today at 6:30 p.m.
The featured speaker is Cmdr. Michael Schoonover, a Coast Guard officer of 22 years who is with the Maritime Force Protection Unit at the Bangor Naval Base in Kitsap County.
Refreshments are offered, and the event is open to the public.

Collage artist
PORT LUDLOW — A reception for collage artist Marilyn Sandau will be held in the lobby of Columbia Bank, 9500 Oak Bay Road, on Wednesday from
4 p.m. to 5 p.m.
The reception continues in the Art Gallery, adjacent to the bank, from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m.
The art raffle drawing will be held toward the end of the reception.
Tickets are $2, and all proceeds go to the student scholarship fund.
YMCA Thrive event
PORT TOWNSEND — “An Enchanted Garden Soiree,” sponsored by the Jefferson County YMCA, will be held in an artist’ garden at 5:30 p.m. Saturday.
The $50 ticket includes an evening of music, local foods prepared by Jefferson Healthcare chef Arran Stark and a silent and
live auction.

The event aims to raise funds to support the Jefferson County YMCA and Exercise and Thrive program, a post-cancer-care health and wellness program delivered at Jefferson Healthcare and now in its third year.
This year’s live and silent auction items include a round of golf and lunch for four at Cedars of Dungeness, a wine tasting for 10 at FairWinds Winery, personal care gift certificates, one pizza per month for a year from Ferino’s and a photography workshop with Keith Lazelle.

Street Ride event
PORT ANGELES — The third annual “No Reason . . . Just Ride” event featuring street stunt riders Jason Britton and Eric Hoenshell will be at Port Angeles Power Equipment, 2624 E. U.S. Highway 101, on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. to benefit American Legion Riders Post No. 29 in Port Angeles.
Registration is at 9 a.m. and costs $20, which includes a T-shirt and donation to American Legion riders.
Food will be available by Silver Spruce Coffee Co.

Dolls, memories
PORT ANGELES — A new exhibit at the Museum at the Carnegie, 207 S. Lincoln, features four cases filled with memorabilia about the pioneer McLaughlin family, including doll clothing made for the McLaughlin sisters by their mother, Jane.
Visitors to the Museum will have the opportunity to meet sisters Jane and Ann on Saturday from
1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
They will share stories and talk more about this collection that spans 50 years of memories.
Oscar and Emily McLaughlin came to Port Angeles with the Puget Sound Cooperative Colony in 1888.
Their grandson, Harold “Si” McLaughlin was a well-known educator in the county who taught in Clallam Bay, Forks and Port Angeles as well as being a principal at the high school in Sequim.
His wife, Jane, was a reading tutor at Jefferson School in Port Angeles and was an accomplished seamstress.
Jane started making her three daughters’ clothing in the late 1930s. Jane, being both frugal and creative, took the scraps and made matching outfits for the girls’ dolls.
She continued on special occasions to make the doll clothing into the 1980s.
One of the girls died early from cancer, but sisters Jane and Ann kept their treasures.
This collection recently was donated to the Clallam County Historical Society.
The museum is open Wednesday through Saturday from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
