NEAH BAY — Faye Chartraw and Kaela Tyler have been chosen to play in the Washington State Girls Basketball Coaches Association Senior All-State game for Class 1B this Saturday.
Chartraw and Tyler, both seniors, helped Neah Bay finish 21-3 this season and place fifth at the state tournament in Spokane earlier this month.
Chartraw led the Red Devils with 19.4 points per game and 10.6 rebounds per game, and she was third on the team with 2.2 steals per game.
Tyler was second in scoring (11.7 ppg) and rebounds (6.4 rpg), and led the team in steals (3.1 per game) and assists (3.0 per game).
Class 1B will play Class 2B at King’s High School in Seattle on Saturday at 2 p.m.
Joining Chartraw and Tyler on the 1B team will be Desere’e Doty, the daughter of former Sequim multi-sport standout Darrin Doty, and her Crosspoint teammate Cailyn Cattell.
Also on the 1B team are Mount Vernon Christian’s Jacqueline Case, Pateros’ Lorie LeDoux, Mary M. Knight’s Miranda Sowle, Almira-Coulee-Hartline’s Rainy Rocket and Savannah Chadwick of state-champion Colton.
Republic’s Ted Torzewski will be the 1B coach.
Following the 1B/2B game, 1A will face 2A at 4 p.m. and 3A plays 4A at 6 p.m.
Boys Basketball
Venske scores 17 for Class 1B
SAMMAMISH — Neah Bay’s Abraham Venske scored 17 points for Class 1B at last week’s Washington Interscholastic Basketball Coaches Association Senior All-State game.
Venske and the 1B team held a 54-50 lead at halftime of Saturday’s game, but went on to lose to Class 2B 111-108 at Eastside Catholic High School.
Garfield-Palouse’s Tyler Thurman led all scorers with 25 points for 1B, and Taholah’s Keanu Curleybear added 20.
Women’s Basketball
Pilster leads North to All-Star win
OREGON CITY, Ore. — Peninsula College’s Madison Pilster scored a game-high 15 points as the North Region edged the South Region 80-78 at Clackamas Community College on Sunday.
Pilster made 6 of 13 shots, including 3 of 7 from 3-point range, and grabbed five rebounds in 21 minutes.
Pilster’s Peninsula teammate Gabi Fenumiai pulled down six rebounds in 20 minutes.
The North was coached by Peninsula’s Alison Crumb.
