Agency seeks volunteers for steelhead group

OLYMPIA — Volunteers are being sought to serve on a citizen advisory group that advises the state Department of Fish and Wildlife on steelhead and anadromous cutthroat management issues.

Department managers will select as many as 15 people to serve two-year terms on the Steelhead/Cutthroat Policy Advisory Group, with the terms beginning in January.

Members of the group provide guidance to the department on issues related to management of steelhead and sea run cutthroat.

They also serve as a communication link between the department and its constituents.

Anyone interested in serving as an advisor should have a broad statewide interest in steelhead and cutthroat.

Public liaisons

Advisers must effectively communicate with large segments of the public and clearly articulate their ideas and guidance to fishery managers within the department, according to a department news release.

The group meets about four times a year, and advisers are asked to provide comment on written material throughout the year.

Current members of the advisory group can reapply, but the agency also is looking for new candidates with varied backgrounds.

Any group or individual can submit a nomination.

Self-nominations also will be accepted. Nominees do not need to be affiliated with an organized group.

What to include

Nominations must include the following information:

■ The nominee’s name, address, email address and telephone number.

■ Relevant experience.

■ Brief description of interest in serving as a member of the advisory group.

■ Nominee’s affiliations, if any.

■ Nominee’s effectiveness in communication.

■ Name and contact information for any individual or organization submitting a nomination.

Nominations must be received by 5 p.m. Nov. 30.

Send nominations to Bob Leland, steelhead program manager, by mail: WDFW, 600 Capitol Way N., Olympia, WA, 98501-1091; or by sending an email to robert.leland@dfw.wa.gov.

For more information, phone Leland at 360-902-2817.

Interested parties have until Nov. 16 to submit a nomination.

For more information on the committee, phone Ryan Lothrop at 360-902-2808.
