Three authors to read from their work at Northwind Arts Center

PORT TOWNSEND — Three authors will read excerpts from their work at 7 p.m. Thursday during “An Evening with Floating Bridge Press” as part of the Northwind Reading Series.

A donation of $5 is suggested for the readings at the Northwind Arts Center, 701 Water St.

Ben Cartwright, Katy E. Ellis, and Alex Vigue are the evening’s selected presenters.

Cartwright’s work has appeared in publications including “The Pinch,” “DIAGRAM,” “West Branch” and “Seneca Review,” among others.

His debut poetry collection, “After Our Departure,” was published by Sage Hill Press in 2016, in addition to being selected by Nance Van Winckel as the winner of the press’ Powder Horn Prize.

He lives in Spokane where he teaches at Spokane Falls Community College.

Ellis grew up in Renton, and is the author of two chapbooks, “Urban Animal Expeditions” and “Gravity,” the former being nominated for a Pushcart Prize.

She studied writing at the University of Victoria and at Western Washington University.

Her poetry appears in a number of literary journals including “Literary Mama,” “MAYDAY Magazine” and “Calyx.”

Her fiction has appeared in “Burnside Review,” and placed third in the Glimmer Train Super Short Fiction contest.

Ellis co-curates Words West Literary Series, a monthly literary event in west Seattle, where she lives with her husband and daughter.

Vigue is a poet and storyteller from Vancouver, Wash., with a bachelor’s degree in creative writing from Western Washington University.

His work has appeared in “Vinyl,” “Maudlin House” and “Lockjaw Magazine,” among others.

He strives to make poetry accessible to everyone. In his spare time he substitute teaches and works retail.
