Rhododendron Festival to begin Wednesday

PORT TOWNSEND — The 90th Rhododendron Festival will kick off at 6 p.m. Wednesday with Trike Races.

The races, for ages 1 through 6, will be on Water Street, between Madison and Monroe streets in Port Townsend.

Registration will open at 5 p.m. Two-wheeled bikes, 12 inches or shorter, with training wheels are allowed.

Thursday will feature the Pet Parade on Lawrence Street at 5:30 p.m.

Friday’s events include the Kiddie Parade at 4 p.m., the Hair and Beard Contest at 6 p.m., Bed Races at 6:30 p.m. and a community meal and gathering in the American Legion Hall at 7:30 p.m.

Saturday will start with a pancake breakfast from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at the Elks Lodge, and a nine-hole golf scramble at 10 a.m. at Camas Prairie Park.

Registration for Saturday’s Grand Parade will be from 8 a.m. to noon at the Jefferson Community Foundation’s Nonprofit Resource Center, 2409 Jefferson St. The parade will start in uptown at 1 p.m. and conclude downtown about 3 p.m. with the Cake Picnic at Pope Marine Park.

The Elks will host a spaghetti feed from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., and Chautauqua will present “The Big Show” at 7 p.m. at the American Legion Hall.

Sunday morning, the Rhody Run 10K race will start at 9 a.m. and the 5K race will start at 9:15 a.m. Both will be at the Jefferson County Fairgrounds.

The Rhody Scholarship 18-hole Best Ball golf tournament will tee off at 10 a.m. at Camas Prairie Park, and the Port Townsend Chautauqua Downtown will be open from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Tyler Plaza.
