Purple theme highlights First Friday Art Walk in Sequim

SEQUIM — A purple-themed art walk is set for 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at various venues in downtown Sequim.

Maps for the self-guided art walk are available at www.sequimartwalk.com.

Special events in July include:

• Over the Fence, 118 E. Washington St., is hosting Mary Beth Beuke of West Coast Sea Glass. Mary Beth creates fine silver art jewelry that features rare sea glass pieces in every color.

Beuke is the author of “The Ultimate Guide to Sea Glass.”

• The A. Milligan Art Studio and Gallery, 520 N. Sequim Ave., is hosting “Plein Air Inspirations” in its main gallery.

The exhibit features the work of Jinx Bryant, Joyce Hester, Marian Morris and Roger Morris.

Each of the artists has an affinity for painting in the open air, although their styles and individual interpretations vary.

The show includes pieces painted entirely on site, works that were begun outside and finished in the studio and pieces inspired by the experiences of the artist’s plein air sessions but painted solely in the studio.

“I love the initial excitement, when light describes an object, a scene, a sound, and I can think of nothing else until I sketch the concept, start the painting … set in motion the creative process,” said Bryant, a Sequim-based artist.

• Blue Whole Gallery, 129 W. Washington St., will display “A Walk In The Woods” featuring Jeannine Chappell and Jane Smith.

Chappell paints with acrylic on panel and paper, and Smith is a gourd artist who also paints repurposed items like tea pots.

While different in style and media, they share a source of inspiration in the woods.

• La Petite Maison Blanche, 213 E. Washington St., will feature live music with song artist Kate Lily along with original art and uniquely curated gifts and treats throughout the shop.

• Pacific Mist Books, 122 W. Washington St., will host Janet McGiffin, the author of “Seizing the Power,” the third book in her Empress Irini series of historical young adult fiction.

Pacific Mist Books offers a mix of new and vintage books, cards and gifts, including local authors and artists.

• Forage Gifts and Northwest Treasures, 121 W. Washington St., will host macrame artist Shelly Weber.

Known as the Pacific Northwest Girl, Weber creates mamacre inspired by nature and the use of texture.

Forage features local artists and inspired gifts by our state and the North Olympic Peninsula.

• The Sequim Arts Advisory Commission will host an opening reception for “To Feel, Focus on Texture” in the Karen Kuznek-Reese Gallery at the Sequim Civic Center, 152 W. Cedar St.

The First Friday Open Music Jam also is at the civic center, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. The public is invited to bring acoustic instruments for an informal gathering of people who like to make music.

• Olympic Theater Arts, 414 N. Sequim Ave., will present “Lavender Melodrama — Lavender Dreams” at 7 p.m.

The over-the-top melodrama is based on the mythical history of the Pacific Northwest and the Lavender Capital of the World, Sequim.

The annual show features a new script, cast and jokes.

Tickets are $20 at www.olympictheatrearts.org or by calling the box office at 360-683-7326.

• Sequim Museum and Arts, 544 N. Sequim Ave. The Judith McInnes Tozzer Art Gallery will host an exhibit of oil paintings by Steve Vogel.

Vogel’s paintings focus on local nautical themes and local historical sights.

• Sofie’s Flowers is now at 127 W. Washington St. with artful blooms and has joined the art walk at its new location downtown.

• Habitat for Humanity of Clallam County’s Boutique Store, 213 E. Washington St., will host live music with Reckless Dove from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

• Rainshadow Café, 157 W. Cedar St., will have live music with Dawn and Steve from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Come sing your favorite songs, dance or enjoy a full menu and drinks.

• Sequim Spice and Tea, 139 W. Washington St., has unique art including glass, pottery, illustration and photography of local artists.

• Soup in the Alley, 138 W. Washington St., will feature a rotation of local artists, live music and treats.

• Alder Wood Bistro, 139 W. Alder St., will have artisan wood-fired local, seasonal, organic food in the heart of Sequim.

• Locally created gifts don Cedarbrook Lavender Gift Shop, 120 W. Washington St., which will have farm fresh lavender creations, treats and vintage décor items.

• The River House Bakery & Cafe, 120 W. Bell St., will host local artists with food and bakery items.

• Pacific Pantry, 229 S. Sequim Ave., will be open until 7 p.m. and host a rotation of local artists.
