Pianist to offer up Southern gospel, military tunes

PORT ANGELES — Pianist Ken Young will present two concerts featuring the Southern gospel piano of Anthony Burger this weekend.

The free concerts will be at 7 tonight and noon Saturday at St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church, 132 E. 13th St.

The concert will be held in the church sanctuary, where there is a Steinway concert grand piano.

Voluntary donations to benefit the community dinner fund at St. Matthew’s will be accepted.

Burger, said Young in a news release, was the “greatest Southern gospel pianist ever and was a Steinway &Sons piano company performing artist.”

Young will perform selections from three of Burger’s arrangement folios.

Among the Burger arrangements are “One More Song for You” by Michael and Stormie Omartian, “El Shaddai” by Michael Card and John Thompson, and “Worship the Name” by Charles A. Tindley.

He also will provide piano accompaniment for his wife, Belinda, as she plays the recorder on three selections.

Lastly, said Young, the concerts will feature a musical salute in recognition of armed services personnel and veterans.

He plans to play “The U.S. Air Force,” “Anchors Aweigh,” “Semper Paratus” and other military service themes.

The complete program is available on Young’s website, www.portangeles pianist.com.
