PORT ANGELES — The Port Angeles High School Drama Club’s production of the musical “Little Shop of Horrors” opens tonight.
All performances take place in the Port Angeles High School Performing Arts Center, 304 E. Park Ave.
Evening performances will be tonight and Saturday and Nov. 16-17, all at 7.
Matinee performances will be at 2 p.m. Sunday and Nov. 18.
Tickets are $10 for general admission, and $8 for students with an Associated Student Body card.
Advance tickets can be purchased at Port Book and News and Odyssey Book Store.
Tickets also will be available at the door.
“Little Shop of Horrors” is a horror comedy rock musical by composer Alan Menken and writer Howard Ashman about a florist shop worker who raises a plant that feeds on human blood and flesh.
The musical is based on the low-budget 1960 black comedy film, “The Little Shop of Horrors.”
The music, composed by Menken in the style of early 1960s rock ’n’ roll, doo-wop and early Motown, includes several well-known tunes, including the title song, “Skid Row (Downtown),” “Somewhere That’s Green,” and “Suddenly, Seymour.”
The plant, which increases in size during the performance, was rented from a shop in California and consists of four puppets.
The production is comprised of 19 actors and chorus members, and 30 stage crew members, all PAHS students.
English teacher Kelly Lovall directs the play. Jolene Gailey, choir director, will furnish musical direction. Shawne Johnson is set designer and Patric McInnes will provide technical direction. All three are PAHS instructors.
A trio of Doo Wop girls do most of the dancing in the production. Anna Pederson of Ballet Workshop and GhostLight Production is the choreographer.
