Port Angeles police arrest man in boat behind The Landing mall

PORT ANGELES — Port Angeles police arrested a man on a fishing boat at the back of The Landing mall Wednesday morning after what they said was a dispute over pay.

David P. Hoffman, 56, of Joyce was arrested and booked into the Clallam County jail for investigation of first-degree assault and first-degree vehicle prowl, both felonies.

Deputy Chief Jason Viada said Hoffman unlawfully boarded the boat and held its owner at knifepoint, threatening to kill him during a dispute about pay.

“Mr. Hoffman expected to get paid for the work he had done … and that’s the gist of the beginning of this,” Viada said. No one was injured.

Due to access issues to the boat, federal agents with Customs and Border Protection transferred the man via their boat to the Port Angeles City Pier where he was then placed in the back of a PAPD car to be taken to jail.
