AMERICAN LEGION: Wilder Junior remains unbeaten at state

Wilder Senior 1-1 at AAA tournament

SPOKANE — Wilder Junior remains unbeaten at the AA state tournament after beating Gonzaga Prep 9-4 in its second-round game late Sunday.

Wilder Junior (25-6-2) played its third-round game late Monday against the Yakima Valley Peppers with the final result after press deadline. The juniors will play again today at either 10 a.m. or 1 p.m.

Meanwhile, the Wilder Seniors (31-8-1) lost 8-2 to Yakima Pepsi Pak in its second-round game in the AAA state tournament in Selah. Wilder Senior is still alive in the double-elimination tournament. They played Lakeside after press deadline Monday. Wilder Senior must win that game to remain alive. If they do win, they play again at 7 p.m. today.

Back to the juniors’ victory, Wilder got four runs in the fourth and four more in the fifth to take command of the game. Abe Brenkman had a big game, going 2-for-4 with a double, two runs scored and three RBIs.

Ian Smithson was 2-for-2 with a run, an RBI and a walk, while Carston Seibel was 2-for-4 with an RBI.

Bryce Deleon had a hit with an RBI, while Owen Leitz had a hit and two runs scored.

Seibel pitched most of the game. He went five shutout innings, allowed three hits and struck out six.

Seniors game

SELAH — The seniors hung tough with Pepsi Pak until the fifth inning when the Yakima team scored five runs over two innings to pull away.

Colton Romero was 2-for-3 with a double and a run scored. Lincoln Bear was 2-for-3 with two RBIs, while Alex Angevine hit a double.

On the mound, Kody Williams started, allowing 10 hits and six earned runs in five innings.
