SEQUIM — The Olympic Medical Center Foundation will present “An Evening in Chile” for the 2013 Harvest of Hope Wine & Dinner Gala on Saturday.
The gala, which costs $125 per person, will start with cocktails at 6 p.m. at SunLand Golf & Country Club, 109 Hilltop Drive.
Dinner will be served at 6:45 p.m.
The 11th annual gala will raise funds for local cancer patients being treated at Olympic Medical Cancer Center through the provision of services, programs and equipment.
During the event, the Seattle Cancer Care Alliance will receive the OMC Foundation’s inaugural Rick Kaps Award, named for a Sequim High School coach and educator who died of cancer in 1998.
Award namesake
Kaps, who was named Washington state basketball coach of the year in 1988, died of cancer in February 1998 at the age of 55.
The award will recognize annually an institution or individual for their support of cancer care on the North Olympic Peninsula, said Bruce Skinner, director of the OMC Foundation.
OMC was the Seattle Cancer Care Alliance’s first affiliate member in 1993, Skinner said.
The alliance “facilitates the flow of scientific information among researchers, clinicians and patients to accelerate the development of new knowledge and treatment of various cancers.”
The evening will feature local chef Kathryn Kitts from The Sweet Beginning Cafe. Wines from Chile will be featured.
Todd Ortloff of KONP radio will host the fundraiser.
A raffle and live auction are planned.
