PORT ANGELES — Port Scandalous Roller Derby will sell Jell-O shots at Bar N9ne, 229 W. First St., tonight from 9 p.m. until they run out.

Funds raised will support the nonprofit group.

DJ O.B.1 will spin hits.

Merchandise will be available for purchase.

Daddy-Daughter Dance

PORT ANGELES — Port Angeles Parks & Recreation will host a Daddy-Daughter Dance, a “Nifty Fifties Sock Hop,” at the Vern Burton Community Center, 308 E. Fourth St., from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Saturday.

Tickets, which can be purchased at the Parks & Recreation office in the center, are $15 per couple, with an additional $5 charge per additional child.

Photographs will be taken beginning at 5:30 p.m. Each family will receive a 4-inch-by-6-inch photograph provided by Dewi Sprague Photography.

Prizes will be awarded for best-dressed couple, and light refreshments, dancing and games will be offered.

Symphony support

PORT ANGELES –– Young Artist Competition musicians Adlai Erickson on cello, Marley Erickson on violin and Joshua Gershon on flute will play while the audience dines at C’est Si Bon, 23 Cedar Park Drive, at 6 p.m. Saturday.

Boat safety class

PORT ANGELES — The Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla 42 will sponsor a boating safety class, “About Boating Safety,” at the Coast Guard base on Ediz Hook at 9:30 a.m. Saturday.

This class qualifies participants for a state Boater Education Card, which is required for all boaters younger than 60.

The cost is $15 per person or $20 per couple.

Norse genealogist

PORT ANGELES — The Clallam County Genealogical Society will host Deanna Dowell, an expert on Norse genealogy, at the group’s meeting from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday.

The meeting is in the Raymond Carver Room at the Port Angeles Library, 2210 S. Peabody St.

Dowell will present “Slekhistorie: The Basics — Norway to America.”

The meeting is free and open to the public.

Attendees are asked to come between 15 and 30 minutes early to register, visit and have a cup of coffee.

Rummage sale

PORT ANGELES — The annual Roosevelt Rummage Sale will be from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday.

The sale in the gym at Roosevelt Elementary School, 106 Monroe Road, will be open to the public.

Clothing, housewares, furniture, electronics, tools, books and toys will be on sale.

Proceeds will provide scholarships for the sixth-grade outdoor education program Oct. 15-17 at NatureBridge.

Items not sold will be donated to Roosevelt’s Cougar Clothes Closet and local charities.

POW/MIA recognition

PORT ANGELES — The Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1024 will host a POW/MIA recognition ceremony beginning at 7 p.m. Saturday.

The ceremony will take place at the Clallam County Veterans Center, 216 S. Francis St.

Each year, the third Friday in September is recognized as POW/MIA Recognition Day and honors the commitment and sacrifices made by this nation’s prisoners of war and those who are still missing in action, as well as their families.

Fall garden sale

SEQUIM — The Sequim Prairie Garden Club will host a fall garden sale at Pioneer Memorial Park, 387 E. Washington St., from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday.

In addition to a large selection of perennials, shrubs and trees from members’ gardens, there will be home-baked goods, fresh garden produce, garden art, books, other gardening-related items, a raffle and more.

Outdoor Club hike

SEQUIM — The Olympic Outdoor Club plans hikes Saturday and Sunday.

The Saturday hike will be on the Upper Dungeness River Trail.

It is a moderately easy hike of 6.8 miles round trip, with an elevation gain of 600 feet and a high point of 3,100 feet.

The Sunday hike is Mount Townsend Trail.

It is a moderately difficult hike of 8.2 miles round trip, with an elevation gain of 2,900 feet and a high point of 6,280 feet.

Sequim Band to play

SEQUIM — The Sequim City Band will perform a free outdoor concert from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday.

The band will play at the James Center for the Performing Arts amphitheater in the Sequim Water Reuse Park, 563 N. Rhodefer Road, just north of Carrie Blake Park.

The band is a nonprofit organization that receives its funding from community donations.

Driver safety in PT

PORT TOWNSEND — A driver safety class will be offered at First Presbyterian Church, 1111 Franklin St., from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. today.

Participants can qualify for an insurance discount if they are 50 or older.

The class is designed to help refresh driving skills and inform attendees of revised laws.

The cost of the class is $15 for AARP members and $20 for nonmembers.

The class is limited to 25 participants.

Tootsie Roll drive

The Knights of Columbus and volunteers will conduct a Tootsie Roll Drive in Port Townsend and Port Hadlock from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. today and Saturday.

Volunteers will be at four locations: The Co-op, QFC and Aldrich’s Market in Port Townsend, and QFC in Port Hadlock.

Proceeds will be divided between the state Special Olympics and National Alliance for Mental Illness.

Volunteers will be wearing bright-yellow aprons and holding Knight of Columbus collection canisters and Tootsie Rolls.

All-ages nature walk

PORT TOWNSEND — St. Paul’s Episcopal Church will host a free all-ages walk, “Opening the Book of Nature,” from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturday.

The walk will be at the Peace Mile Trail at Fort Worden State Park, 200 Battery Way.

Parking is near the west gate with a Discovery Pass.

Fayette Krause, a St. Paul’s member and land steward for The Nature Conservancy in Washington from 1979 to 2009, will lead the walk.

Participants should dress for the weather, wear sturdy shoes and, if wanted, bring binoculars.

Block party for band

PORT TOWNSEND — A block party on the beach near the Pourhouse, 2231 Washington St., is scheduled for Sunday.

Food will be available at 1 p.m., and the band will play at 3 p.m.

Donations for a Chimacum High School Band trip will be requested.

The only band in the state that will be in Hawaii on Pearl Harbor Day has raised nearly half the funds it needs for the trip.

The band will march in a Dec. 7 parade to commemorate the 43rd anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor, which prompted U.S. entry into World War II.

Each student needs to raise $1,400.

CHIMACUM — A free Jefferson County Master Gardener plant clinic will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday at the Chimacum Corner Farmstand, 9122 Rhody Drive.

A Master Gardener will assist with gardening questions and diagnosis of plant problems.

Bring in bagged samples of plant parts (healthy and damaged sections), including stem, leaves, flowers, etc. Pest samples will help in the diagnosis as well.
