SEQUIM — The defending state champions picked up right where they left off.
Sequim’s softball team, that romped to the Class 2A title last spring, opening the 2012 season by demolishing Klahowya 20-0 in Olympic League action Tuesday.
Pitching ace Demiree Briones (1-0) picked up her first victory of the year by throwing the distance in the five-inning game.
She gave up just two hits while striking our six.
Briones also was a perfect 4-for-4 on they day while Rylleigh Zbaraschuk and Hannah Grubb blasted home runs.
Briones slugged out three doubles, scored four runs and knocked two runs in.
Grubb went 3-for-4 with a double to go with her home run, four RBIs and three runs while Zbaraschuk hit a two-run homer.
Alexas Besand, meanwhile, went 3-for-4 with two doubles, three RBIs and four runs scored, and teammate Columbia Haupt was 2-for-2 with a double, two walks and four runs scored.
Zbaraschuk, Grubb and Bailey Rhodefer collected two stolen bases each.
The Wolves ripped out 18 hits and had only one error.

PORT TOWNSEND — The Roughriders earned the nonleague victory at Memorial Stadium on Andy Palmer Memorial night.
The game celebrated firefighter Palmer, a Port Townsend graduate who died while fighting a fire in the Yakima area a few years ago.
Anthony Brandon scored an early goal at the 11th minute to give the Roughriders a 1-0 lead.
He used his speed to collect a pass from Hayden McCartney to put the Riders ahead.
Port Townsend goalkeeper Brian LeMaster came up with some good saves to keep the Redskins in the game.
The Riders had a 1-0 halftime lead.
Kyle Bingham added an insurance goal for Port Angeles at the 64th minute on a nicely placed far post shot over the head of LeMaster and into the side net.
The Redskins had several opportunities in the game but were unable to score.
Port Townsend hit the crossbar on a long-distance shot with the score 2-0.
Jack Doryland recorded his second shutout of the season in the net for Port Angeles.
Brandon was named the offensive player of the match while Sam Beasley was picked as the defensive player of the game and Bingham and McCartney shared transition player of the match honors.
The Port Angeles JV team beat Port Townsend 3-1.
The Riders, still undefeated at 3-0-2 for the year, next travels to Silverdale to play Olympic League rival Olympic in nonleague action Thursday with the JV game starting at 5:30 p.m. and the varsity match following at 7:15 p.m.

ROCHESTER — A powerhouse Rochester team exploded to a 4-0 halftime lead and cruised in the SWL-Evergreen Division.
“We had a rough time,” Forks coach Brian Bowers said.
“They controlled the ball a lot better than we did. They are undefeated and probably the best team in the league.”
Forks goalkeeper Josh Rice had 10 saves in the game for the Spartans.
