Special filing period set in Jefferson County

PORT TOWNSEND — The Jefferson County Auditor will conduct a special three-day filing period from 8:30 a.m. May 28 through 4:30 p.m. May 30.

The special period is only open for the 14 positions that no one filed for during the regular filing period.

Candidates who file during this special period may not withdraw. The race will only appear on the ballot during the general election, and all candidates who file for a position, regardless of the number, will appear on the ballot.

If no one files for an office during the special filing period, the office will be deemed lapsed and will not appear on the general election ballot.

Candidates may file around the clock at https://www.co.jefferson.wa.us/1876/3-Day-Special-Candidate-Filing.

Candidates also may file in person from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at in the Jefferson County Auditor’s Office, 1820 Jefferson St., Port Townsend; by U.S. Mail to Jefferson County Elections, P.O. Box 563, Port Townsend, WA 98368; by fax to 360-385-9228; or by email to elections@co.jefferson.wa.us.

Declarations must be received no later than 4:30 p.m. May 30.

The following positions will be open during the filing period:

• Public Hospital District No. 1 West, position 2, a six-year term.

• Public Hospital District No. 1 West, position 3, the unexpired two years of the term.

• Queets/Clearwater School District No. 20, position 1, a four-year term (director at-large).

• Queets/Clearwater School District No. 20, position 2, a four-year term (director at-large).

• Queets/Clearwater School District No. 20, position 5, a four-year term (director at-large).

• Brinnon School District No. 46, position 1, a four-year term (director at-large).

• Clearwater Fire District No. 7, position 1, a six-year short and full term.

• Clearwater Fire District No. 7, position 2, the unexpired four years of the term.

• Clearwater Fire District No. 7, position 3, the unexpired two years of the term.

• Water District No. 1, Paradise Bay, position 3, a six-year short and full term.

• Water District No. 2, Brinnon, position 1, a six-year term.

• Water District No. 2, Brinnon, position 2, the unexpired four years of the term.

• Gardiner Cemetery District No. 3, position 1, a six-year term.

• Gardiner Cemetery District No. 3, position 2, the unexpired two years of the term.

Names will appear on the ballot in the order determined by a public lot draw at 4:45 p.m. Friday in the Auditor’s Office.

Additionally, three candidates withdrew their filings by the close of business on May 13.

Jill Buhler-Rienstra withdrew from East Jefferson County Hospital District, position 5, a six-year term. That leaves Patty Rhoden running uncontested for the position.

Dana Nixon withdrew from Quilcene School District director at large, position 5, a four-year term. That leaves Richard Fitzgerald running uncontested for the position.

Donna Pall withdrew from Chimacum School District director, district 1, a four-year term. That leaves Roxanne Hudson running uncontested for the position.
