PORT ANGELES — Six young Port Angeles musicians have been selected to perform with the best of the Northwest during a music conference Feb. 15 in Spokane.
Percussionist Sam Stevenson and bass player Michael Helwick will represent the Roughriders with the All Northwest Orchestra, while percussionist Kyle Sholinder was named a member of the All State Concert Band.
In choir, Annika Pederson was selected for the All Northwest Mixed Choir, while Mackenzie Cammack and Nick Fritschler will perform with the All State Mixed Choir.
The announcement was made last week.
The students are directed by Doug Gailey, band director; Jolene Dalton-Gailey, choir director; and Ron Jones, orchestra director.
Students from schools in Alaska, Idaho, Montana, Oregon and Wyoming submitted tryout tapes for the select musical performance groups and were selected by a panel of judges.
The National Association for Music Education and Washington Music Educators Association’s All-State Festival at the Spokane Convention Center features daily performances from the All-Northwest Orchestra, Band, Wind Ensemble, Jazz Band, Jazz Choir, Treble Choir, Mixed Choir and Youth Choir.
