Port Angeles: Schools, police warn students and parents about annual “egg wars”

PORT ANGELES — School officials and law enforcement agencies are warning Port Angeles High School students again this year not to participate in homecoming “egg wars” and other acts of vandalism or trespassing.

The Port Angeles Police Department mailed a letter to parents warning them about the department’s position on such activities.

It was signed by Port Angeles Police Chief Tom Riepe, Port Angeles School District Superintendent Gary Cohn, School Board President Charlie McClain, Clallam County Sheriff Joe Hawe, Port Angeles City Attorney Craig Knutson, Clallam County Prosecutor Chris Shea and Port Angeles High School Principal Michelle Reid.

“This is about the fifth year we’ve sent out the letter. The incidents have become fewer and fewer each year,” Reid said.

The letter states many students take to the streets and public parks at night, armed with “eggs, rocks and other items capable of causing injury or damage to property.”
