PORT ANGELES — City police Wednesday were searching for a “very skinny” white male who was believed to have been attempting a residential burglary on the 1300 block of Campbell Avenue.
The man was described as 5-foot-9, weighing 115 pounds with dirty brown hair and wearing a stained white T-shirt, khaki shorts and tennis shoes.
He was spotted running into the woods off Campbell Avenue near its intersection with Wabash Street in Port Angeles.
Police also were looking for a small gray pickup truck that may have been spray painted that was last seen traveling westbound on Campbell Avenue.
Burglary in progress
Police received several reports of a possible burglary in progress at about 3:15 p.m. Wednesday.
“We don’t have any evidence that it was a success,” Deputy Police Chief Brian Smith said.
“There was somebody home there.”
Neighbors and residents of the house told police they saw a suspicious person in a backyard and heard a noise on a porch, along with the sound of barking dogs.
Police arrived within minutes. A police dog team tracking unit was deployed, and Border Patrol units helped contain the area.
“We brought as many resources to bear as we could,” Smith said.
Smith said it would be “remarkable” if the man escaped on foot because the police dog unit was unable to catch him.
Smith reminded the public to report suspicious behavior to police.
“We take these calls pretty seriously,” he said.
