Port Angeles High School graduation ceremony’s parking, seating are outlined before Friday rites

PORT ANGELES — Guests at the new Port Angeles High School graduation venue should plan ahead for parking and seating arrangements, said the assistant principal.

Commencement ceremonies for the Roughriders Class of 2015 will be at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Civic Field, with entrances on Race Street between East Second and East Fourth streets.

High school old site

In the past, the ceremony has been at the high school.

Parking is limited in the Civic Field parking lot, especially for the disabled and those with mobility issues, said Jeff Lunt, assistant principal.

Guests with mobility issues can be dropped off at the parking area, and they will be assisted to seating in the first rows of bleachers, he said.

Handicap access

Lunt said guests in wheelchairs will be seated along the lower stadium walkway, but chairs for their family members are not allowed due to safety and traffic flow issues.

Graduates will meet at 6:30 p.m. at the tennis courts and field at Erickson Park on Race Street and will enter the field from the football locker room tunnels on the north and south sides of the stadium to meet in the middle.

Port Angeles Police Department volunteers will direct traffic on Race Street to ensure the safe crossing of guests and graduates.

Best location

Students, musicians and teachers will be seated on the field, while guests will be seated in the stands, Lunt said.

Parents should ask their graduates where they will be seated — on the north or south side of the stage — and for the best view, sit in the bleachers on the opposite side, he said.

Lunt said graduate seating will face obliquely toward a center aisle and the stage so that parents can see their faces and not just the backs of their heads.
