The Chimacum High School Marching Band performs in Honolulu on Sunday as part of the annual commemoration of the Dec. 7, 1941, attack on Pearl Harbor. The band, playing under the direction of director Garth Gourley, performed “God Bless America” as a massed band with 11 other school bands and the Marine Corps Forces Pacific Band. Gourley reports that the first survivor of the attack to speak during the opening ceremony Sunday was 92-year-old Port Townsend resident Tom Berg, who also joined the band to march after he finished leading the parade.
