Park announces road closures

PORT ANGELES — Olympic National Park has announced the immediate closure of North Shore Quinault Road just north of the Quinault River bridge in the southwestern corner of the park.

The road was damaged by a storm in November 2021 and continued settling of the road surface has made it impassable to vehicles, according to a U.S. Park Service press release.

The North Fork Campground and trailheads are still accessible via the North Shore Road.

Additionally, the Graves Creek Road, Graves Creek Campground and East Fork Quinault Trail will be closed to all traffic from Monday through May 25 to allow replacement of three road bridges and the Pony Bridge on the East Fork Quinault Trail.

The project is part of a $2.4 million Federal Highway Administration preservation contract to address deferred maintenance of 14 road bridges within the park.

In addition to the road bridges, the “Pony Bridge,” a trail bridge on the East Fork Quinault Trail, will be replaced during the same closure. This replacement is part of a larger project that addresses numerous trail deficiencies in multiple areas of the park.

The work will be performed by Masanna Construction of Gig Harbor.
