Spit writers feature two authors Friday

SEQUIM — Writers on the Spit will celebrate another evening of readings with featured writers Karen Hogan and Linda Myers at Rainshadow Coffee Bar, 157 W. Cedar St., at 6:30 p.m. Friday.

The public is invited to arrive at 6 p.m.

Hogan writes short stories, lyrical essays, poetry and narrative nonfiction.

Arriving in Sequim in 2013, she came from Livermore, Calif., where she hosted a literary salon for 10 years and published five anthologies of writings. She is working on a novel in short stories titled Still Life.

Myers moved to Port Angeles from Chicago in 2005. Her first nonfiction book, The Great Lakes: North America’s Inland Sea, was published by Outdoor World.

“I learned how little an author could make,” she said, so she turned to advertising and eventually became the creative director of Grey Advertising in Chicago. She “learned it not only pays to advertise, it pays to write it, too.”

Fourth Friday Readings include an hour of open-mic readings. Writers are encouraged to rehearse in advance, as each writer is given five minutes to read. Participants are asked to sign in at the door.

There is no fee for this event.

For open-mic guidelines, email Rmarcus@olypen.com.
