NEWS BRIEFS: EcoVillage movie slated for Thursday in Port Angeles . . . and other items

PORT ANGELES — A free screening and discussion by EcoVillage Dungeness will take place at The Natural Healing Clinic, 162 S. Barr Road, at 7 p.m. Thursday.

EcoVillage Dungeness is a new group forming to create an EcoVillage in the Sequim-Dungeness Area.

During this event, the documentary “Visions of Utopia” and video of the Earthaven Ecovillage will be shown.

Elwha food program

PORT ANGELES — The Lower Elwha Klallam tribe is sponsoring a Simplified Summer Food Program for Children.

Meals will be made available at no charge to attending children ages 1 to 18 years at the site listed below at the following times:

■ Noon to 1 p.m. Mondays-Fridays, June 16 to Aug. 28, at the Lower Elwha Klallam Tribal Center, 2851 Lower Elwha Road

The program will be closed July 3, and meals will not be provided.

Planning forum

PORT ANGELES — Martha Ireland will be the moderator for the annual Planning Forum on Ending Homelessness in the downstairs fellowship hall at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 301 Lopez Ave., from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Guest speakers will address the Ten Year Plan to End Homelessness in Clallam County.

There will be reports on past years’ accomplishments and challenges and planning for this year and into the future.

This free program is open to all who are interested in preventing and ending homelessness.

Photographing birds

SEQUIM — The Olympic Peninsula Audubon Society will hold its annual June potluck and meeting at the Dungeness River Audubon Center at Railroad Bridge Park, 2151 W. Hendrickson Road, on Wednesday.

The potluck is at 6 p.m., with a program starting at 7 p.m.

After more than 30 years as an action-photography enthusiast, Chris Perry retired to Sequim to capture birds in flight.

He will share some of his favorite images and divulge methods used to capture them.

Part of the program will include the presentation of Harlequin and Conservation awards for 2015.

Bring a dish to share, plus a plate and utensils.

The program is free and open to the public.

Health talk set

SEQUIM — Nash’s Farm Store, 4681 Sequim-Dungeness Way, will have a free health talk, “You Are What You Eat,” with Dr. Ryan Iskenderian at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Iskenderian’s talk focuses on ways to optimize health through nutrition, exploring how the body responds to different foods and gaining a deeper understanding on how and why some “foods to avoid” will disrupt the body’s normal functioning, according to a news release.

Included in this talk will be a “top 10” list of foods to add to a diet to maximize health and vitality.

Senior nutrition

PORT ANGELES — Port Angeles Senior Nutrition Site dinners will be served at 4 p.m. Tuesday through Friday at the Port Angeles Senior Center, 328 E. Seventh St.

A suggested donation is $5 for those who are 60 or older.

People younger than 60 can attend for $8.

Reservations should be made 24 hours in advance to 360-457-8921.

Menus are subject to change.

■   Tuesday: Tossed salad, cabbage roll, rice, green beans and mixed berries with cream.

■   Wednesday: Mushroom soup, chef salad, garlic bread and ice cream sundae.

■   Thursday: Green salad, meatloaf, mashed potatoes, cut corn ’n’ carrots and pears.

■   Friday: Broccoli slaw, fish and chips, cantaloupe and lemon poppy seed cake with berries.
