PORT ANGELES — The Clallam County Sheriff’s Office Chain Gang cleaned along 2 miles of Deer Park Road, picking up 120 pounds of garbage during the week of Nov. 26 – 30.
Crew members found three illegal dump sites, one on Dan Kelly Road with 120 pounds of garbage and two on Little River Road with 800 pounds of garbage.
Crew members cut and cleared a tree and associated debris that fell on the perimeter fence at the Clallam County Correctional Facility.
Crew members fixed a fence that was cut at the search and rescue yard.
Crew members also cleaned the wash rack at the county shop.
Crew members cleared debris from South Shore Road.
Crew members cleared the county storm drain at Port Angeles Power.
Crew members removed a 4-by-4 post in the county right of way and dug holes and filled them with rock to prevent flooding on North Barr Road.
Crew members cleaned the shoulder and culverts on Benson Road, the culvert and creek drainage on Crescent Beach Road and removed gravel from the roadway on Mount Pleasant Road.
Crew members checked Black Diamond, Little River, Old Mill and Dan Kelly roads for flooding and diverted water where possible.
Crew members cleared weeds from Mount Pleasant Road at the intersections of Key and Scrivener roads to improve visibility for drivers.
Crew members pulled approximately 750 Scotch broom plants from Blyn Pit.
Crew members pulled approximately 2,110 Scotch broom plants from Kirner Pit.
Crew members also pulled approximately 270 Scotch broom plants from Mount Pleasant Pit.
Notable items found along roadways were five needles, a tire, a couch, a recliner, a plastic tote and a 5-gallon bucket.
During the week of Dec. 3 – 6, the chain gang cut down trees, pulled Scotch broom and trimmed the grass in the collection ponds on Mount Angeles Road and Larch Avenue, removed the debris and disposed of it in Ranger Road Pit.
Crew members found six illegal dump sites: one on Place Road with 2,220 pounds of garbage, one at Laird’s Corner with 160 pounds of garbage and four on Little River Road with 500 pounds of garbage.
Crew members dug ditches on East Beach Road and Spruce Railroad Trail to prevent flooding of the roadway.
Crew members cleaned out the ditch and removed a downed tree and limbs from the county right-of-way on Crescent Beach Road.
Crew members checked the cross culverts on Camp Hayden Road for blockage.
Crew members cut up and removed trees and limbs that were partially blocking Little River Road.
Crew members cleaned off the Mount Pleasant storm drain grate and the adjoining ditch.
Crew members cleaned the cross culvert and ditch on Elwha River Road.
Crew members pulled approximately 1,200 Scotch broom plants from Blyn Pit.
Notable items found along roadways were a pickup camping trailer, a canopy for a pickup, a TV, a computer monitor and pieces of treated wood.
During the week of Dec. 10 – 14, the chain gang brushed, chipped, spread grass seed and straw and cut down dangerous trees with the county road department along Crescent Beach Road.
Crew members also looked for and removed storm debris along Deer Park, Township Line, Black Diamond, Little River, Draper, Mount Pleasant, Dietz, Glass, Old Mill and Simmons roads as well as Edgewood Drive.
During the week of Dec. 17 – 21, the chain gang brushed, chipped and cut down dangerous trees with the county road department for one half mile along Crescent Beach Road.
Crew members also looked for and removed storm debris along South Shore, East Beach, Draper, Mount Pleasant, Dietz, Glass, Airport, Eden Valley, Dan Kelly, Place, Elwha River, Old Mill and Simmons roads as well as Edgewood Drive and the Tumwater Truck Route.
Crew members cleared a blocked culvert on Township Line Road.
Crew members piled brush into a burn pile in Place Road Pit.
Crew members also cleaned off the wash rack at the county shop and washed the county’s trucks.
The chain gang has so far this year cleaned 153.25 miles of roadway, picked up 8,260 pounds of roadside litter, picked up 100,250 pounds of dumpsite litter, recycled 743 pounds of aluminum, trimmed 19,104 feet of guardrail, removed or sprayed 50,315 Scotch broom plants and brushed 12.1 miles of county rights-of-way.
For the Forest Service, the chain gang has so far this year cleaned 4.5 miles of forest roads or trails, removed 12,610 pounds of dumpsite litter and removed 23 hazard trees.
Holiday Bazaar donates
SEQUIM — The Sequim Lavender Growers Association recently held its 21st annual Holiday Bazaar.
According to a press release, the raffle prize drawings raised $583 for charity allowing the association to donate $300 each to Sequim Community Aid and Toys for Tots.
Additionally, Santa received $240 placed into his boot for Toys for Tots and the association added another $100 to that.
PT Arts angel nominees now sought
PORT TOWNSEND — The Port Townsend
Arts Commission is seeking nominees for its 2018 Angel of the Arts award.
The award recognizes individuals whose unpaid work has contributed to the production or performance of art.
Nominations must be turned in by Monday.
Nominees must be residents of Port Townsend.
Nominations may be based on exceptional efforts during 2018 or on long-term accomplishments.
Previous winners of the award are ineligible, but re-nomination of unselected nominees from prior years is encouraged.

The Angel of the Arts will be honored at a reception to be held in the Cotton Building during February.
