PORT ANGELES — Seven members of the Port Angeles High School Class of 2015 have been named commended students in the 2015 National Merit Scholarship Program.
Principal Jeff Clark announced that the commended students are Brady Anderson, Zoe Bozich, Nicholas Fritschler, James Gallagher, Michael Helwick, Simon Shindler and Samson Waddell.
Each student will receive a letter of commendation from the school and from the National Merit Scholarship Corp., which conducts the program.
Each year, around 34,000 commended students are recognized for exceptional academic promise.
Commended students are those who placed among the top 5 percent of the more than 1.5 million students who entered the 2015 competition by taking the 2013 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship/Qualifying Test as high school juniors.
They will not continue in the 2015 competition for National Merit Scholarship awards.
Earlier it was announced that one Port Angeles student, senior Leah Marsh, was named a semifinalist and is among 16,000 National Merit semifinalists nationwide who will compete next spring for approximately 7,600 National Merit Scholarships worth $2,500 each.
