PORT ANGELES — A free concert with the 20-piece Peninsula College Jazz Ensemble is set for lunch time this Tuesday at Peninsula College’s Pirate Union Building, aka the PUB, and everybody’s welcome.
The ensemble, with bandleader David P. Jones and singer Robbin Eaves, will step up at 12:30 p.m. for the hourlong performance on the main campus, 1502 E. Lauridsen Blvd.
Music lovers can plan on tasting a varied spread of swing and jazz standards, including Gershwin’s “Our Love Is Here to Stay” and “Embraceable You,” along with Jerome Kern’s “Yesterdays” and Nat King Cole’s “Hit that Jive, Jack.”

Jimmy Van Heusen’s “Here’s That Rainy Day” is also on the itinerary, featuring Steve Swanson, the ensemble’s regular trumpeter and a veteran of the Buddy Rich Big Band and Lionel Hampton Band.
Then there are Freddie Hubbard’s “Povo,” a jazz-rock classic from 1970, and Les Hooper’s rock ballad “When We’re Together,” featuring alto saxophonist Bob Bailey.
The Peninsula College Jazz Ensemble’s players come from Port Angeles, Sequim, Joyce and Port Townsend.
They represent some of the best jazz the North Olympic Peninsula has to offer, said Jones.
For those thirsty for more live jazz, the band will give another free concert at 7 p.m. Tuesday, June 9, at Maier Hall on the Peninsula College campus.
