‘Dancing with Stars’ seeks dancers for Saturday’s Port Angeles show, contest

PORT ANGELES — The North Olympic Peninsula’s own “Dancing with the Stars” show and contest is returning this coming Saturday to the Port Angeles High School Performing Arts Center stage, and local dancers are needed for the opening number.

In this event, the Utah Ballroom Dance Company, which first came to Port Angeles last fall, partners with the Juan de Fuca Foundation for the Arts.

To prepare dancers for the opening set, the Utah performers will teach lessons this week: at 7 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday at Studio Bob, 118½ E. Front St.

A rehearsal will be held during the day Saturday.

There’s no charge for the lessons, and dancers, after performing in the opening number, will receive free tickets to the “Dancing with the Port Angeles Stars” show at 6 p.m. Saturday at the performing arts center, 304 E. Park Ave.

This year’s “Port Angeles Stars” contestants, all competing for the mirror-ball trophy, are Betsy Wharton, Josh Rancourt, D Bellamente, Marc Jackson, Joyce Mininger, Alison Crumb, Tom Baermann and Todd Ortloff.

Each will learn and perform a particular style — such as waltz, tango or salsa — with a partner from the Utah Ballroom Dance Company.

For more about the show and the Juan de Fuca Foundation’s after-party Saturday night, see www.JFFA.org or phone the office at 360-457-5411.
